Canal Promenade – Eberswalde, Germany

The town of Eberswalde is located on the Finowkanal, an historic driving force of the cities’ prosperity. The location of the canal has not yet been pushed to its fullest potential for residents and visitors. The city and the water landscape of the canal should be brought together to improve the quality of life of Eberswalde and to make the city even more attractive for tourism. This would allow the Finowkanal to function once more as an engine of influence to strengthen Eberswalde’s image as a small city. For this purpose, existing urban fragments are woven into a tapestry of spaces – each with specific qualities – while the landscape develops both breadth and consistency. The approach is site-specific, contextual, economical, and can be implemented in phases, providing freedom for future developments.
