Speculative Praxis – For A Future City / DAZ Berlin

Speculation, more than mere conjecture, is the deliberate formulation of new ideas based on existing knowledge and intelligent projection. In architecture and planning, speculative practice, along with transdisciplinary collaboration and experimentation with new technologies can yield new questions and unconventional yet necessary solutions for 21st century problems.

Sarah Whiting, Dean of Rice University School of Architecture, will open the evening with a video introduction to the emerging concept of Speculative Practice. This will be explored further by leaders in the field, with presentations and discussion from Maria Aiolova, Terreform ONE, Andreas Quednau/Sabine Müller, SMAQ, Matthias Böttger, raumtaktik, Max Schwitalla, Studio Schwitalla, and Jakob Tigges, Mila. The Future Cities Symposium on Speculative Practice was developed in cooperation with CIEE Global Architecture and Design. Discussion is in English with moderation from Lukas Kronawitter, Terreform ONE.
