Prize / Depot and Workshops / Schwerin, Germany

As part of the international open design competition “Depots and Workshops for the State Authority for Culture and Heritage (LAKD) and the State Museum in Schwerin (SMS) in the state capital Schwerin,” buildings were to be designed for the site on John Stelling Road in Schwerin for an „integrated workshop and a depot split into three clusters“: one for paper, one for archeology and one for arts and crafts with a total of 50 kilometers of shelving. The landmarked artillery barracks built between the years 1859-1862 on the site, were to be embraced in the design. SMAQ’s proposal has been awarded second prize by the jury, which was chaired by Jan Störmer.

An exhibition of the competition entries is on view from the 17th until the 20th of September 2012 in the Royal Stables Hall, Werderstr. 124 in Schwerin.
