Berliner Platz is one of the busiest intersections in Osnabrück. The development at the intersecting Wallring and Wittekindstraße has been rebuilt after the war only partially. The area has evolved in the decades that followed until today into a rather unattractive transition space: vacant lots, vacant and unloving greened leftover areas next to the heavy traffic roads characterize the atmosphere with low amenity value. Within the framework of a call in of expert opinions three teams where asked to develop an urban, open space planning and traffic-related revision and reorganization for the area at Berliner Platz.
The selection committee unanimously recommended the proposal of SMAQ with SHP (traffic) and Man Made Land (landscape) to make it the basis of the preparatory planning for the redesign of the district along the Wittekindstraße between Goethering/Erich Maria Remarque-Ring and the railway line.
